Blender Import FBX with Texture

Jul 26, 2024

Are you struggling to import FBX files with textures into Blender for your 3D modeling projects? In this article, we'll walk you through the process step by step.

First, make sure you have downloaded the FBX file and its corresponding texture files. These texture files could be in formats such as PNG, JPEG, or TIFF.

Open Blender and navigate to the 'File' menu. Select 'Import' and then choose 'FBX' from the dropdown menu. Locate your FBX file on your computer and click 'Import'.

Once the FBX file is imported, you may notice that the textures are not applied to the model. To fix this, go to the 'Shading' workspace in Blender and select the 'Material Properties' tab. Click on the 'New' button to create a new material for the model.

Next, go to the 'Texture Properties' tab and click on the 'Add' button to add a new texture to the material. Choose the appropriate texture type (e.g., Image Texture) and then locate the texture file on your computer.

After you have imported the texture file, make sure to connect it to the corresponding input of the shader. For example, if it's a color texture, connect it to the 'Base Color' input. If it's a normal map, connect it to the 'Normal' input.

Repeat this process for all the texture files that are associated with the model. Once you have connected all the textures, you should see the model fully textured in the 3D viewport.

Finally, don't forget to save your work by going to 'File' > 'Save' or 'Save As'. This will ensure that your textures are properly linked to the model and will be preserved when you reopen the project.

With these steps, you should now be able to successfully import FBX files with textures into Blender for your 3D modeling projects. Remember that practice makes perfect, so don't be afraid to experiment and try different techniques to achieve the desired results. Happy modeling!
