How to Import FBX with Textures into Blender

Jul 31, 2024

Are you working on a 3D modeling project and need to import FBX files with textures into Blender? Here's a quick guide to help you get started.

Step 1: Open Blender and go to the 'File' menu. Select 'Import' and then choose 'FBX (.fbx)' from the options.

Step 2: Navigate to the location of your FBX file and select it. Click 'Import FBX' to bring it into Blender.

Step 3: Once the FBX file is imported, you may notice that the textures are not showing up. This is because the textures are not automatically linked to the FBX file in Blender.

Step 4: To fix this, go to the 'Shading' workspace in Blender. In the 'Shader Editor', create a new material for your imported FBX object.

Step 5: In the 'Shader Editor', click on the 'Add' menu and select 'Texture' to add a new texture node. Connect the texture node to the 'Base Color' input of the material.

Step 6: In the texture node, click on 'Open' and navigate to the location of your texture file. Select the texture and click 'Open Image' to link it to the material.

Step 7: Adjust the mapping and UV settings as needed to ensure the texture is properly applied to your 3D model.

Step 8: Once you have linked the texture to the material, you should see it applied to your FBX object in the 3D viewport.

By following these steps, you can successfully import FBX files with textures into Blender for your 3D modeling projects. This will allow you to bring in externally textured models and continue working on them within Blender.

Remember to save your work regularly and check the texture settings to ensure everything looks as expected. Happy modeling!
