Blender Import FBX with Texture

Aug 12, 2024

Hey everyone, today I'm going to show you how to import FBX files with textures into Blender for your 3D modeling projects. It's a super useful skill to have, so let's dive in!

Step 1: Open Blender and go to File > Import > FBX. Select your FBX file and click 'Import.'

Step 2: Once your FBX model is imported, you may notice that the textures are not displaying correctly. To fix this, we need to ensure that the texture files are in the same folder as the FBX file, and that the file paths are correctly referenced within the FBX file.

Step 3: If the textures are still not displaying correctly, we can manually assign the textures in Blender. Go to the 'Shading' workspace, select the model, and open the 'Shader Editor.' Here, you can create new texture nodes and connect them to the appropriate material inputs.

Step 4: If your FBX file contains multiple objects with different textures, you may need to assign textures to each object individually. This can be done by selecting each object, going to the 'Texture Properties' tab, and adding or adjusting the texture slots.

Step 5: Once all the textures are correctly assigned, you can proceed with further editing, rendering, and animating your model in Blender. Don't forget to save your work and keep the texture files in the same folder as the Blender project file to ensure they are still linked when you reopen the project.

And there you have it! You've successfully imported an FBX file with textures into Blender and assigned the textures to your 3D model. This is a crucial skill for any 3D artist, and with practice, you'll become a pro at it in no time. Happy blending!
