How to Reset a Nintendo 3DS

Aug 13, 2024

If you're looking to start fresh with your Nintendo 3DS, a factory reset is the way to go. Whether you want to erase all your data and start over, or you're preparing to sell or give away your 3DS, resetting it to its factory settings is the best way to ensure a clean slate. Here's how to reset your Nintendo 3DS:

1. Power off your 3DS: Make sure your 3DS is turned off before you begin the reset process.

2. Press and hold certain buttons: While the 3DS is off, simultaneously press and hold the A, B, X, and Y buttons, as well as the L and R buttons.

3. Turn on the 3DS: With the buttons still held down, power on your 3DS to enter the System Settings menu.

4. Select 'Format System Memory': Use the Control Pad to navigate to 'Format System Memory' and press A.

5. Confirm the reset: Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm that you want to proceed with the factory reset. Be aware that this action cannot be undone and will erase all data on the system.

6. Wait for the reset to complete: Once you confirm the reset, your 3DS will begin the process of erasing all data and restoring the system to its factory settings. This may take a few minutes.

7. Set up your 3DS: After the reset is complete, you'll be prompted to set up your 3DS as if it were new. Follow the on-screen instructions to create a new Mii, set the date and time, and configure other system settings.

And that's it! Your Nintendo 3DS is now reset to its factory settings, ready for you to start fresh. Keep in mind that performing a factory reset will delete all data, including games, save data, and photos, so be sure to back up anything you want to keep before you proceed. Happy gaming!
