How to Convert PNG to OBJ: A Step-by-Step Guide

Aug 19, 2024

Hey everyone! Have you ever wanted to turn a 2D image, like a PNG file, into a 3D model? Well, today I'm going to show you how to do just that using a simple and popular tool called Blender. So let's get started!

Step 1: Import the PNG image into Blender. Open Blender and go to File > Import > Images as Planes. Select your PNG file and click 'import.'

Step 2: Adjust the settings. In the bottom left corner of the toolbar, you'll see the 'Import Images as Planes' panel. Here, you can configure the settings such as the number of frames, material settings, and transparency options.

Step 3: Convert the image to a 3D model. With the image plane selected, go to the 'Object' menu and choose 'Convert to' > 'Mesh from Curve/Meta/Surf/Text.' This will turn your 2D image into a 3D model.

Step 4: Export the model as an OBJ file. Once you're satisfied with the 3D model, go to File > Export > Wavefront (.obj). Choose a location to save the file, and click 'Export OBJ.'

That's it! You've successfully converted a PNG image to an OBJ 3D model. Now you can use it in your 3D modeling projects, games, or animations. I hope you found this tutorial helpful. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments. Happy modeling!
