How to Go Back to 3D View in Blender

Sep 27, 2024

So you've found yourself stuck in a different view in Blender and you're wondering how to get back to the familiar 3D view. Don't worry, it's actually quite simple!

Step 1: Locate the Viewport Shading Dropdown

In the top-right corner of the 3D Viewport, you'll find the Viewport Shading dropdown menu. It's usually represented by a sphere or a cube icon. Click on it to reveal the different shading options.

Step 2: Select the Solid Shading Option

Once you've opened the Viewport Shading dropdown, look for the option that says 'Solid'. This will switch the viewport to the solid shading mode, which is the standard 3D view in Blender.

Step 3: Check the Viewport Gizmo

If you're still not back in the 3D view after selecting the Solid shading option, take a look at the Viewport Gizmo in the bottom-left corner of the 3D Viewport. This is where you can switch between different view modes such as Wireframe, Solid, Material Preview, and Rendered.

Step 4: Use Hotkeys to Toggle 3D View

If you prefer using hotkeys to navigate Blender, you can simply press the number keys on your keyboard to switch between different view modes. For example, pressing '1' will take you to the Front Orthographic view, while pressing '5' will toggle between Perspective and Orthographic view.

Step 5: Save Your Layout

Once you've successfully returned to the 3D view, you may want to save your current layout to avoid getting stuck in a different view in the future. Go to the top-left corner of the Blender interface, click on the 'File' menu, and select 'Save Startup File'. This will ensure that Blender opens with your preferred 3D view layout every time.

By following these simple steps, you should have no trouble going back to the 3D view in Blender whenever you find yourself in a different viewport. Happy blending!
