How to Export Xgen to OBJ

Sep 27, 2024

Hey everyone, today I'm going to show you how to export Xgen to OBJ in Maya. If you've spent time creating stunning hair and fur using Xgen, you may want to export it to an OBJ file for use in other 3D modeling and rendering software. Here's how you can do it:

Step 1: Select your Xgen Collection

In the Xgen Interactive Grooming shelf, select ‘XGen Interactive Groomable Splines.’ Then, click on your Xgen Collection in the Outliner.

Step 2: Convert Xgen to Guides

Go to the Modify menu and choose ‘Convert Hair to Guides (Preview).’ This process will convert your Xgen hair and fur into geometry that can be exported as an OBJ file.

Step 3: Export as OBJ

With the hair selected, go to File > Export Selection. In the Export Selection window, choose ‘OBJexport’ from the file type dropdown menu. Name your file and click Export to save the OBJ file to your desired location.

And that’s it! You’ve successfully exported your Xgen hair and fur as an OBJ file. Now you can import it into your 3D modeling or rendering software and continue creating amazing projects.

I hope this tutorial helps you in your 3D modeling and rendering journey. If you found this helpful, give it a like and share it with your friends. Don't forget to follow for more tips and tricks on 3D design and animation. Thanks for watching!
