How to Save a 3D View in Revit

Sep 28, 2024

Hey there, Revit enthusiasts! In this tutorial, I'm going to show you how to save a 3D view in Revit so that you can access it later with just a few clicks. Saving 3D views is essential for efficiently navigating and presenting your building information model (BIM) from different perspectives. Let's get started!

1. Open your Revit project and navigate to the 3D view that you want to save.

2. Once you have the desired view in place, go to the 'View' tab on the ribbon at the top of the screen.

3. In the 'Create' panel, click on the '3D View' dropdown menu and select 'Camera'. This will allow you to define the viewpoint and orientation of the 3D view before saving it.

4. After adjusting the camera to your desired position and angle, go to the 'Properties' palette and give your 3D view a descriptive name under the 'View Name' parameter. This will make it easier to identify and access later.

5. Now that your 3D view is set up, it's time to save it. Simply go to the 'Project Browser' on the left side of the screen, right-click on the '3D Views' folder, and select 'New 3D View'. This will create a new entry where you can save your current 3D view.

6. Once the new 3D view is created, you can right-click on it in the Project Browser, select 'Rename', and give it a more user-friendly name if desired.

7. Congratulations! You have successfully saved a 3D view in Revit. Now, whenever you want to access this specific viewpoint of your model, you can simply double-click on the saved 3D view in the Project Browser and it will immediately take you back to that perspective.

By saving 3D views in Revit, you can streamline your workflow, efficiently present your designs to clients and stakeholders, and easily revisit specific angles and locations within your building model.

I hope this tutorial was helpful to you in learning how to save a 3D view in Revit. If you have any questions or if there's a specific Revit topic you'd like me to cover in the future, feel free to leave a comment below. Happy modeling!
