How to Remove OBJ Grid in After Effect

Sep 30, 2024

Are you working on a 3D modeling project in After Effect and struggling to remove the annoying OBJ grid from your composition? We've got you covered! Follow these simple steps to easily remove the OBJ grid and enhance the visual appeal of your 3D project.

Step 1: Import Your 3D Model

Start by importing your 3D model into After Effect. Make sure to position it in the desired location within your composition.

Step 2: Apply the 'Element 3D' Plugin

If you're using the 'Element 3D' plugin to import your 3D model, you can easily remove the OBJ grid by navigating to the plugin's settings. Look for the option to hide or disable the grid display, and simply toggle it off.

Step 3: Adjust Composition Settings

If you're not using a 3D plugin like 'Element 3D', you can still remove the OBJ grid by adjusting the composition settings. Select your 3D layer and navigate to the 'Composition' menu. From there, click on 'Composition Settings' and locate the 'Grid and Guides' option. Simply uncheck the box next to 'Show Grid' to hide the OBJ grid from your composition.

Step 4: Use the 'CC Power Pin' Effect

In some cases, the OBJ grid may be a part of the actual 3D model. If this is the case, you can use the 'CC Power Pin' effect to manually remove the grid from specific areas of your composition. Apply the effect to your 3D layer and use the pin points to manipulate the grid out of view.

Step 5: Adjust Lighting and Textures

Once the OBJ grid is removed, take the opportunity to fine-tune the lighting and textures of your 3D model. Experiment with different lighting setups and textures to enhance the overall visual impact of your project.

Step 6: Preview and Render

After removing the OBJ grid and making additional adjustments, be sure to preview your composition to ensure everything looks just as you intended. Once you're satisfied with the result, proceed to render your final 3D visual effects masterpiece.

By following these steps, you can easily remove the OBJ grid from your 3D modeling project in After Effect, allowing you to create visually stunning visual effects without any distractions. Whether you're working on a professional project or simply honing your skills, mastering the art of removing OBJ grids will take your 3D compositions to the next level.
