DIY 3D View Master: Step-by-Step Guide

Oct 02, 2024

Do you remember the excitement of looking through a 3D view master and exploring amazing worlds in 3D? Now, you can recreate that nostalgic experience by making your own DIY 3D view master. It's a fun and creative project that will bring back memories and provide hours of entertainment. Follow this step-by-step guide to create your own homemade 3D viewer.

Materials you will need:

1. Cardboard

2. Scissors

3. Clear plastic sheet

4. Glue

5. Two small lenses (can be found online or salvaged from old 3D glasses)

6. Fun images for your 3D reels

Step 1: Cut the cardboard

Start by cutting the cardboard into two identical rectangular pieces. These pieces will serve as the base for your 3D view master.

Step 2: Create the viewing window

On one of the cardboard pieces, cut out a small rectangle to serve as the viewing window. Make sure it is big enough to see the images clearly but not too large that it affects the stability of the structure.

Step 3: Attach the lenses

Take the clear plastic sheet and glue the two small lenses on one side. Once the glue is dry, place the plastic sheet with the lenses on the viewing window of the cardboard piece.

Step 4: Prepare the images

Choose or create your own fun images to be viewed in 3D. These images should be the same size as the viewing window and can be printed on cardboard or thick paper for durability.

Step 5: Assemble the 3D reels

Glue the images onto small cardboard discs that are slightly smaller than the lens diameter. You will need two of these reels for the 3D effect to work.

Step 6: Put it all together

Glue the two rectangular pieces of cardboard together, leaving one side open for inserting the 3D reels. Once the glue is dry, insert the 3D reels and secure the open side with glue or tape.

Congratulations, you have now created your very own DIY 3D view master! To use it, simply hold the viewer up to your eyes and click through the reels to see the images in stunning 3D. This DIY project is a great way to bring back the nostalgia of the classic retro toy while also providing a fun and creative activity for all ages. Give it a try and enjoy the magic of 3D viewing right at home.
