Oct 03, 2024

Are you working on a PCB design in Altium and want to get a better perspective of your project in 3D? Rotating the 3D view in Altium can help you visualize your design from different angles, making it easier to identify potential issues and optimize your layout. Here’s how you can do it.

1. Open your PCB design in Altium and switch to the 3D view. You can do this by going to the 'View' menu and selecting '3D Layout Mode.'

2. Once in 3D mode, you can use the mouse to rotate the view. Click and hold the middle mouse button, then move the mouse to rotate the 3D view. This simple method allows you to easily manipulate the view and see your design from different angles.

3. You can also use the keyboard shortcuts to rotate the 3D view. Press and hold the 'Shift' key, then use the arrow keys to rotate the view along the X and Y axes. Pressing 'Page Up' and 'Page Down' will rotate the view along the Z-axis.

4. If you want to reset the view back to its default orientation, simply press the 'R' key on your keyboard. This will realign the 3D view to its original position.

By following these simple steps, you can easily rotate the 3D view in Altium to get a better understanding of your PCB design. Whether you’re checking for clearance issues, inspecting component placement, or just wanting to get a better visualization of your project, rotating the 3D view can be a valuable tool in your PCB design process.
