How to Export Magicavoxel as .obj

Oct 04, 2024

Are you a fan of voxel art and using Magicavoxel to create stunning 3D models? If so, you might be wondering how to export your creations as .obj files to use in other 3D modeling software. While Magicavoxel is a powerful tool for creating voxel art, it does not natively support exporting as .obj. However, with a few simple steps, you can easily export your Magicavoxel models as .obj files and continue working on them in other software.

Step 1: Create your model

Before you can export your model as a .obj file, you need to first create it in Magicavoxel. Use the various tools and features available in Magicavoxel to design and sculpt your 3D model to your liking.

Step 2: Convert the model

Once you are satisfied with your model, it's time to convert it to a format that can be exported as .obj. To do this, go to the “File” menu and select “Export” and then choose the “Wavefront .obj” option. This will convert your model into the .obj format.

Step 3: Adjust export settings

When exporting as .obj, you will be presented with a few export settings to adjust. These settings include options such as scale, Y-axis up, and others. Make sure to configure these settings according to your needs and the software you plan to import the .obj file into.

Step 4: Save the .obj file

Once you have adjusted the export settings, you can save your model as a .obj file by choosing the destination folder and providing a name for the file. Click “Save” to export the .obj file.

Step 5: Import the .obj file

Now that you have successfully exported your Magicavoxel model as a .obj file, you can import it into other 3D modeling software such as Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max. This will allow you to continue working on your model, apply textures, lighting, and other effects to further enhance your creation.

By following these simple steps, you can easily export your Magicavoxel creations as .obj files and continue working on them in other 3D modeling software. This opens up a world of possibilities for refining and enhancing your voxel art beyond the capabilities of Magicavoxel alone.
