How to Create a 3D Plan View in Archicad

Oct 05, 2024

Are you an architect or designer looking to add more depth and dimension to your Archicad designs? Creating a 3D plan view can be a game-changer for visualizing your architectural projects. Here's how you can do it:

1. Start by opening your Archicad project and navigating to the floor plan view that you want to turn into a 3D plan view.

2. Once in the floor plan view, go to the 'View' menu and select '3D View Settings' to adjust the settings for your 3D plan view.

3. In the '3D View Settings' dialog box, choose '3D Projection Settings' and make sure that the 'Projection Type' is set to 'Perspective' to give depth to your plan view.

4. Next, adjust the 'Cut Plane' settings to control the height at which the 3D plan view will be cut through your building model. This will determine the depth and layers visible in the 3D plan view.

5. You can also customize the display options such as surface and line types to enhance the visual appearance of your 3D plan view.

6. Once you have adjusted all the settings to your preference, click 'OK' to apply the changes and return to the floor plan view.

7. With the 3D plan view settings now in place, go back to the 'View' menu and select '3D Views' to generate the 3D plan view from your floor plan.

8. You can then navigate to the newly created 3D plan view and explore your design from a three-dimensional perspective.

By following these steps, you can effectively create a 3D plan view in Archicad to bring your architectural designs to life. Whether you're presenting your designs to clients or simply visualizing your projects in a more immersive way, incorporating 3D plan views can elevate the impact of your work.
