How to Export an OBJ from ZBrush

Oct 11, 2024

If you've been working on a 3D model in ZBrush and want to use it in another program or send it for 3D printing, you'll need to export it as an OBJ file. Here's how to do it:

1. First, make sure your model is complete and ready for export. Make any final adjustments or clean-up before proceeding.

2. Once you're ready, go to the 'Tool' palette and select the subtool that you want to export. If you have multiple subtools, you may need to export each one separately.

3. With the subtool selected, go to the 'Tool' palette and click on the 'Export' button. This will open a window where you can choose the file format for export.

4. In the export window, select 'OBJ' as the file format. You can also choose the name and location for the exported file.

5. Before exporting, it's a good idea to check the options in the export window to make sure everything is set up the way you want. You can adjust settings such as scale, texture export, and more.

6. Once you're satisfied with the export settings, click 'OK' to export the OBJ file. ZBrush will then save the file to the specified location.

7. Finally, you can open the exported OBJ file in another 3D program or use it for 3D printing. Some programs may require additional steps such as importing textures or adjusting scale, so be sure to check the requirements of the program you're using.

That's it! You've successfully exported your 3D model from ZBrush as an OBJ file. Now you can use it in other programs or send it for 3D printing. Remember to save your ZBrush project file (.ZPR) as well in case you need to make any further edits in the future.

Happy modeling!
