How to Open OBJ Files in Photoshop

Oct 16, 2024

Hey guys, today I'm going to show you how to open OBJ files in Photoshop for all your 3D modeling and design needs. If you've ever tried to import an OBJ file directly into Photoshop, you may have run into some issues. But don't worry, I've got you covered with these simple steps.

First, make sure you have the latest version of Photoshop installed on your computer. Then, open Photoshop and go to the 'File' menu. Select 'Open' and navigate to the location of your OBJ file.

When you try to open the OBJ file, you may notice that it's not listed in the file types. That's because Photoshop doesn't natively support OBJ files. But here's the workaround – you'll need to use Adobe Dimension, which is a free companion app to Photoshop.

Open Adobe Dimension and import your OBJ file there. Once your file is open in Dimension, go to the 'File' menu and choose 'Export > 3D Layer.'

Next, go back to Photoshop and open a new document. Then, go to the '3D' menu and select 'New 3D Layer from File.' Choose the file you exported from Adobe Dimension, and voila! Your OBJ file is now open in Photoshop, ready for you to work with.

By following these simple steps, you can easily open and work with OBJ files in Photoshop, allowing you to incorporate 3D elements into your designs and take your creativity to the next level. Have fun creating and experimenting with 3D modeling in Photoshop!
