Oct 17, 2024

In this tutorial, I will show you how to upload a 3D OBJ file to Element 3D, a powerful plugin for Adobe After Effects that allows you to import and animate 3D models. Whether you're a motion graphics artist, video editor, or 3D enthusiast, Element 3D is a great tool to add stunning 3D graphics to your projects. Here's how to get started:

1. Install Element 3D: If you haven't already, make sure to install Element 3D on your computer. You can purchase and download it from the Video Copilot website.

2. Open After Effects: Launch After Effects and create a new composition where you want to use the 3D model.

3. Create a Solid Layer: Add a new solid layer to your composition. This will serve as the container for your 3D model.

4. Apply Element 3D: With the solid layer selected, go to the Effects & Presets panel and search for Element. Apply the Element effect to the solid layer.

5. Open the Element 3D Interface: Once the effect is applied, a new window will open for the Element 3D interface. Click on the Import button to bring up the file browser.

6. Select Your 3D OBJ File: Navigate to the location of your 3D OBJ file and select it for import. Element 3D supports various 3D formats, including OBJ, FBX, and C4D.

7. Adjust Settings: After importing the 3D model, you can make adjustments to its position, scale, rotation, and material settings within the Element 3D interface.

8. Preview and Render: With your 3D model in place, you can preview and render the composition to see how it looks in your project. You can also animate the 3D model using Element 3D's built-in animation tools.

9. Fine-tune and Enhance: Experiment with the various features of Element 3D to further enhance your 3D model, such as adding lighting, textures, and particle effects.

10. Save and Export: Once you are happy with the 3D model in your composition, save your project and export it to your desired video format.

By following these steps, you can easily upload a 3D OBJ file to Element 3D and incorporate it into your After Effects projects. Whether you're creating a motion graphics piece, a visual effects shot, or a 3D animation, Element 3D offers a seamless workflow for integrating 3D models into your work. Have fun experimenting with this powerful tool and elevating your video projects with stunning 3D graphics!
