How to Put Existing Surface on Profile View Civil 3D

Oct 18, 2024

Hey everyone, today I'm going to show you how to put an existing surface on a profile view in Civil 3D. This is a really important step in your design and engineering projects, so let's get started.

1. First, you'll need to open your Civil 3D project and navigate to the desired location where you want to create a profile view.

2. Once you're in the right location, go to the 'Home' tab and click on the 'Create Design' panel. Then, select 'Profile View' from the dropdown menu.

3. Now, you'll see the 'Create Profile View' dialog box. Here, you can choose the alignment and the profile view style that you want to use. Make sure to select the style that best fits your project needs.

4. After you've set up the profile view, it's time to add the existing surface. To do this, go to the 'Prospector' tab and expand the 'Surfaces' section. Find your existing surface in the list and right-click on it.

5. From the right-click menu, choose 'Add to Profile View.' This will bring up the 'Add Surface to Profile View' dialog box.

6. In the dialog box, you can customize the appearance of the existing surface in the profile view. You can adjust the display style, the vertical exaggeration, and the reference surface options to make sure it looks the way you want it to.

7. Once you're happy with the settings, click 'OK' to add the existing surface to the profile view.

And that's it! You've successfully put the existing surface on the profile view in Civil 3D. Now you can continue with your design and engineering work with the existing surface visible in your profile view, helping you make more informed design decisions.
