How to Import OBJ File in Nuke

Oct 19, 2024

Hey everyone! Today I'm going to show you how to import an OBJ file into Nuke for all your 3D compositing needs. Whether you're working on a motion graphic project or a visual effects shot, importing OBJ files can add that extra dimension to your work. So, let's get started!

Step 1: Open Nuke and create a new 3D scene by clicking on the '3D' node in the node graph. This will open up the 3D space where we can import our OBJ file.

Step 2: Once the 3D space is open, right-click and select 'Read' to bring up the file browser. Navigate to the location of your OBJ file and select it. Nuke will then import the 3D model into the scene.

Step 3: Now that the OBJ file is imported, you can manipulate its position, scale, and rotation using the 'Transform' controls in the properties panel. You can also add materials and textures to the 3D model to integrate it seamlessly with the rest of your composite.

Step 4: To view the 3D model in the viewer, connect a 'ScanlineRender' node to the 3D scene. This will render the 3D model and display it in the viewer, allowing you to see how it looks within your composite.

And there you have it! With just a few simple steps, you can import an OBJ file into Nuke and start working with 3D models in your compositing projects. It's a great way to add depth and realism to your work, so give it a try and see the difference it makes in your projects. Happy compositing!
