Oct 20, 2024

If you are working with Xgen in Maya for creating hair and fur for your 3D models, you may need to export the Xgen data to OBJ format for use in other 3D software or for sharing with others. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to export Xgen to OBJ in Maya.

Step 1: Set up your Xgen Groom

Before exporting your Xgen to OBJ, make sure that you have set up your Xgen groom and it is ready for export. This may include creating the hair and fur using Xgen Interactive Grooming or any other method within Xgen in Maya.

Step 2: Convert Xgen Collection to Guides

In order to export the Xgen data to OBJ, you will need to convert the Xgen Collection to guides. To do this, select the Xgen Collection in the Outliner, then go to Xgen > Interactive Grooming > Convert to Interactive Groom.

Step 3: Export Guides as OBJ

Once the Xgen Collection has been converted to guides, you can now export it to OBJ format. Select the guides in the Outliner, then go to File > Export Selection. In the Export Selection window, choose OBJ as the file type and set the export options as per your requirements. Click on Export to save the Xgen as an OBJ file.

Step 4: Share or Import

Once the Xgen has been exported to OBJ, you can now share it with others or import it into other 3D software for further use. This allows you to use the Xgen hair and fur data in different software or share it with colleagues or clients.

Exporting Xgen to OBJ format in Maya is a simple process that allows you to use the hair and fur data created with Xgen in other 3D software for rendering or further editing. By following these steps, you can easily export your Xgen to OBJ and use it in your 3D projects.
